COMPUTER SCREEN OF RELEASED SARAH PALIN EMAILS PRINTING On June 10, 2011 the state of Alaska released 24,199 pages of emails from about 21 months of Sarah Palin's time as Alaska governor. an order that took 997 days to fulfill after Palin's 966-day governorship. The emails were released as paper printouts to the media outlets that requested them, which had a reporters in Juneau collecting the heavy boxes of emails. Media outlets paid $725 each for photocopies of the records. The emails were first requested in 2008, when Palin was the Republican vice presidential nominee under Sen. John McCain of Arizona. A number of media outlets requested the documents, and the state lumped all the requests together. The release does not represent a complete record of Palin's email communications. For starters, the state of Alaska decided to redact information from some emails, and simply withhold others. The emails run from the beginning of Palin's term in December 2006 through Sept. 30, 2008, when media outlets originally asked for the materials. Palin remained in office until July 2009, when she abruptly quit with 18 months left in her term, citing her lame-duck status and costly challenges from critics.
