Speaker Ryan lauds passage of 2019 defense bill

House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin says it had been a busy week in the house, having passed three major pieces of legislation headed to the president's desk to become law, busy keeping promises to unleash the economy, take care of veterans and provide hope for the terminally ill. Ryan says the most important promise made was to those who serve in the armed furnaces, to rebuild the military, to reassert dominance in the world, after tax reform is most important legislative priority, another promise kept. Ryan says a historic increase in military funding allowed the bill at hand, that the nation had a readiness problem that had cost lives as more Americans were killed in training accidents then killed on the battlefield, that Defense Secretary Jim Mattis was shocked at the state of readiness reversed by the bill.
