Lockheed T2V-1 Jet Trainer in Flight

First jet trainer designed to operate with U.S. Navy aircraft carriers, the new Lockheed T2V-1 schoolplane (foreground) shown here in its first flight photo sets a fast pace for its predecessor (top), the veteran shooting star type trainer. This photo was taken as the tandem "jet cycle built for two" raced over southern California desert on a test flight accompanied by the earlier Lockheed trainer as a chase plane. The sea going T2V-1, which flies its student-instructor crew at a 600 mph clip and performs all the maneuvers of a standard Navy fighter, introduces numerous new safety and performance features.
