Fukuoka Police Arrest Yakuza Leader on Suspicion of Tax Evasion
KITAKYUSHU, JAPAN - JUNE 16: Naomasa Yoshida, head of the Fukuoka prefectural police, announces the rearrest of Satoru Nomura, head of the Kudo-kai crime syndicate at Kokura Kita Police Station on June 16, 2015 in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan. Fukuoka police rearrested Satoru Nomura, 68, head of the Kudo-kai, on suspicion of not paying income taxes on income derived from a form of "membership fee" collected from lower-ranked groups. The bust comes after extensive cooperation in investigating the crime syndicate among the Fukuoka prefectural police, the Fukuoka District Public Prosecutors Office and the Fukuoka Regional Taxation Bureau. At issue is the hundreds of millions of yen being funneled to Nomura from the large network of lower-ranked groups that belong to the Kudo-kai family. U.S. government agencies have described Kudo-kai as Japan's most violent organized crime syndicate. (Photo by The Asahi Shimbun via Getty Images)
