HUAY PU KENG, MAE HONG SON, THAILAND - 2007/07/28: Mu Name is one of the two coil fixers in Huay Pu Keng village, Northern Thailand. A coil fixer is hired for her special ability to properly wind the brass rings around a woman or a girl's neck. The "long necks" are ethnic Padaung (or Kayan) women, a sub-group of the Karen ethnic from Burma, who wear brass rings around their neck and lower legs. In Thailand, the "long neck" women, sometimes also nicknamed giraffe women, are all refugees from Burma. They live in three special villages accommodated for tourists along the Thai-Burma border. There are around 600 Padaung refugees in Thailand including a hundred "long neck" women and girls. Visits to these villages represent the bulk of the tourism industry in the Mae Hong Son province.
