BAS-RELIEF HUAXTEQUE REPRESENTANT TLALTECUHTLI, MUSEE NATIONAL DE MEXICO

Low relief representing TLALTECUHTLI, monster of Huaxtec lands, 1m70 high, preserved at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City. The God of Earth, TLALTECUHTLI (de nahuatl tlalli, earth, and tecuhtli, lord) is represented with an upside down head and hands ending in claws. He would eat the sun in the morning and it would come back up in the morning. He would feed off of human hearts. TLATECUHTLI is most oftened figured in sculptures.
