Adamma West, 8, from Aurora makes hand prints on the bus using her favorite color pink. Using paintbrushes and even their hands, several dozen adult and youth volunteers gathered at the Aurora Public Library to transform an old school bus using latex paint into the perfect abode for chickens living at Grant Family Farms. Grant Family Farms, a community supported agriculture co-op in Wellington, uses school buses to house their free-range chickens. The chickens live in the farm's crop fields and eat pests while fertilizing crops, but use the school buses for shelter. The buses also are used to move the chickens to different parts of the farm on a rotating basis. Several dozen adult and youth volunteers from the community will use paint, creativity and a sense of whimsy to transform an old school bus into the perfect abode for chickens at Grant Family Farms.
