A Zanzibar red colobus monkey, Procolobus kirkii, eats a piece of charcoal on Zanzibar, Tanzania. These endangered animals have specially adapted stomachs which enable them to feed principally on leaves. They eat charcoal from burnt tree stumps and branches to detoxify poisons obtained from their leafy diet.
