SIMPLE COLUMNAR CILIATED EPITHELIUM and PEG (Secretory) CELLS, Fallopian Tube (or Uterine Tube), Human, 250X. Ciliary action helps to move the egg toward the uterus. The PEG CELLS are non-ciliated cells, with elongated thinner nuclei, and they also have mucus associated with them at the apical end facing the lumen. The peg cells are intermingled with the ciliated cells. Peg cells are secretory cells that are influenced by hormones and become more active during pregnancy and the secretory (luteal) phase of the menstrual cycle. The Basement Membrane and underlying, supportive connective tissue is also evident.
